The Youth-Powered Ecosystem to Advance Urban Adolescent Health (YPE4AH) is a five-year USAID-funded initiative (2020–2025) implemented in Lagos and Kano States by a consortium of five partners: Development Alternatives Inc. (DAI) (Prime), Women Friendly Initiative (WFI), Youth Development & Empowerment Initiative (YEDI), Yellow Brick Road (YBr), and Grassroot Soccer Inc. (GRS).
The project aims to improve adolescent health outcomes by increasing access to voluntary family planning (FP) services for economically disadvantaged, out-of-school adolescents aged 15–19, using a hub-and-spoke service delivery model.
Objectives:
- Life Skills: Strengthen adolescents’ skills for healthy living and future planning.
- Leadership: Foster an enabling environment for adolescent health and development.
- Livelihoods: Enhance youth employability, job creation, and entrepreneurship opportunities.
- Cross-cutting areas: Strengthen local capacity, evidence generation, and learning.
WFI’s Role:
- Establish and strengthen a network of high-quality, youth-friendly FP/Reproductive Health providers linked to community hubs.
- Collaborate with State Health Ministries to implement Youth-Friendly Health Guidelines and supervise service providers.
- Strengthen referral systems for Gender-Based Violence (GBV), Substance Abuse, and Mental Health services in targeted urban slums of Lagos and Kano States.
- Engage traditional and non-traditional multi-cadre health providers within local communities to extend service reach and promote sustainable access to adolescent health services.
