With support from Lift Above Poverty Organization (LAPO), WFI implemented a three-year cancer control campaign across communities in Kuje Area Council, FCT, beginning in December 2016.
The project aimed to reduce cancer-related deaths by promoting early detection through widespread sensitization, social mobilization, free screenings, and referral services, targeting breast, cervical, prostate cancers, and childhood tumors.
Key Achievements:
- Trained 12 healthcare providers across 5 Primary Health Centers on cancer screening techniques.
- Established and trained 3 Community Cancer Control Committees (Chibiri, Pegi, Guabe).
- Reached over 434,741 individuals with cancer awareness campaigns (144,920 males, 289,821 females).
- Screened 7,505 people (2,500 males, 5,005 females) for breast, cervical, and prostate cancers.
- Referred 2,720 individuals for additional screenings and 30 individuals for cancer treatment.
Through this impactful project, WFI strengthened early detection efforts and empowered communities with life-saving information and services.
