Project Completion: YPE4AH (TEENSMATA)
We are pleased to announce the successful completion of the USAID-funded Youth-Powered Ecosystem to Advance Urban Adolescent Health (YPE4AH) project, also known as TEENSMATA. The project aimed to improve the health and well-being of urban-slum adolescents in Nigeria by increasing voluntary family planning uptake and addressing broader social and economic factors.
Key Achievements:
- 20,605 cumulative youth engagements and participations in program activities
- 7,324 unintended pregnancies averted
- 2,995 unsafe abortions averted
- 16,184 disability-adjusted life years (DALYs) saved
- 39 maternal deaths prevented
- Improved earnings and contributions to local communities among adolescents
- 24% of adolescents returned to school
Project Overview:
YPE4AH was implemented by a consortium of five partners from 2020 to 2024, targeting male and female adolescents aged 15-19 years in six Local Government Areas (LGAs) in Lagos and Kano. The project launched in February 2021, with activities commencing in Lagos in July 2021 and Kano in March 2022.
Impact:
The lives of project beneficiaries have significantly improved since participating in YPE4AH activities. We are proud of the positive impact made and look forward to building on this success in future initiatives
WFI-SCALE PROJECT

Accelerating Sub-National Advocacy for AYFHS and NSPAN
We are pleased to announce the successful completion of our 24-month project, "Accelerating Sub-National Advocacy for Implementation of the Adolescent and Youth Friendly Health Services (AYFHS) and the National Strategic Plan of Action for Nutrition (NSPAN)" in 5 states and the Federal Capital Territory of Nigeria.
Goal:
Improved adolescent, youth, maternal, and child health well-being in five (5) states and FCT.
Objectives:
- Build capacity of influential stakeholders for advocacy
- Engage capacitated Influential muti- stakeholders as advocates for AYFHS and NSPAN policies
Achievements:
- 100% creation of dedicated budget lines for AYFHS and Nutrition across 11 project locations
- 4% Budget releases for Nutritional activities in 4 LGAs (Kuje, Lafia, Ezza-South, and Abakaliki)
- 3% budgetary increase for nutrition and AYFHS in 3 LGAs (Abakaliki, Kuje, and Mangu)
- Appointment of 9 substantive desk officers for AYFHS in Nutrition-focused states
- Appointment of 11 substantive desk officers for Nutrition in AYFHS-focused states
- Designation of 73 Primary Health Centers (PHCs) for AYFHS and Nutrition services across 11 project locations
Impact:
- Enhanced funding for AYFHS and Nutrition programs, ensuring sustained implementation and improved health outcomes for adolescents and youth.
- Strengthened partnership with local and state actors, promoting collaborative governance and resource allocation.
- Demonstrated effective advocacy and policy influence, paving the way for future initiatives.
