Funded by the US Ambassador’s Small Grant, this six-month project by WFI focused on improving literacy among HIV-positive orphans and vulnerable children (OVC) in Shadadi, Buzunkure, and Godoji communities in Kuje Area Council, FCT.
The project supported children at risk of dropping out due to financial hardships by covering school fees, levies, and providing essential school supplies.
Through this initiative, WFI directly contributed to Sustainable Development Goal 4 (SDG 4) by increasing access to quality education for AIDS-orphaned children.
Key Achievements:
- Re-enrolled, retained, and supported the progression of 425 OVCs in school.
- Supplied 20 teachers’ desks and chairs, and 200 pupils’ combined tables and seats across three LEA primary schools.
- Conducted home-based counseling for caregivers, raising awareness of the importance of education.
- Strengthened relationships with local communities and the Kuje LEA Education Board.
- Achieved the overall goal of boosting literacy among vulnerable children.
