PROMOTING TASK- SHIFTING THROUGH COMMUNITY BASED ACCESS TO COMPREHENSIVE MATERNAL HEALTH SERVICES IN URBAN SLUMS IN NIGERIA

This is a two-year ongoing research project funded by the Grand Challenges Canada to investigate the perceptions and experiences of delivering comprehensive maternal health services including family planning, therapeutic post abortion care services in three (Mpape, Kubwa and Nyanya) urban slums of FCT, through community-based Adolescent Girls and Young Women (AGYW), non – traditional health care providers linked to female-managed maternity homes.

The project through strategic partnership, is reaching and saving the lives of more AGYW through: Trainings and re-trainings for peer influencers to improve access and quality of services offered to AGYW, Provision of quality confidential peer counselling and referrals from trained and equipped peer influencers, Strengthening providers with full range of short term and long acting birth spacing methods/products support and Strengthening provider-community partnership for comprehensive maternal services.
